Quotes on Service: Why Service Rules Over Money

I would like to include some quotes on service to really explain why consistently upholding the principle of service is so important to a successful long-term career.

In the land of ethical employment, as in the land of all business dealings, service – putting your customer’s, client’s and team members’ needs first - always rules over money.

Remember that if you’re really in the right business, career or job, you’re doing it out of passion, creativity, service, joy – not just for the money. On the other hand, when it’s ”all about the money,” everyone suffers in one way or another from this severe imbalance in values.

Doing something “just for the money” is the worst choice. Yes, we need money, but it’s best if it comes as a result – a natural consequence - of the service we provide to others.

You must be sure that the thing you want to do does not contribute only to your own success ... It must benefit humanity ... Your idea must go forth with the purpose of blessing or serving the world. It will then come back to you magnified and full of blessings.

This is one of my all-time favourite service quotes from one of my favourite authors – Joseph Murphy, and one of my favourite books – “The Power of Your Subconscious Mind.”

Traditional Punjabi Quotes on Service

The manner of effecting a task is more important than the result of the task.

The manner of speech is more important than the content of such speech.

How things are done is more important than what is done.

How one addresses others is more important than what one says.

This is called “Traditional Punjabi Teachings,” quotes on service from my former career counseling colleague Parveen Dhatt-Sangha's guidebook, “The Punjabi Community: A Guide for Service Providers.”

It is written with great clarity and is one of my all-time favourite quotes that I like to read over and over again.

Authors Napoleon Hill (Think and Grow Rich) and Wallace Wattles (The Science of Getting Rich) both wrote books about getting rich – through providing consistently outstanding service to others.

Napoleon Hill offers us the following:

It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others to succeed... It has always been my belief that a man should do his best, regardless of how much he receives for his services, or the number of people he may be serving or the class of people served...

And,

The man who does more than he is paid for will soon be paid for more than he does.

Wattles Encourages Us to Use Only Our Creative Mind

And Wallace Wattles offers,

You must get rid of the thought of competition. You are going to get what you want, but in such a way that when you get it every other person will have more than [s]he has now ...

You can give to every person more than you take from them ... give people more in use value than you take from them in cash value... so that each transaction makes more life.

In simplest terms, we can always give more than we receive.

Then, according to Wattles,

You are adding to the life of the world with every business transaction.”

Wattles continues,

You can have everything you want, as long as you use it for the advancement of your own life and the lives of others.

And finally, Wattles gives us a friendly reminder:

You can help others more by making the most of yourself than in any other way.
