Bad Job Interviews: Correct This Questionable Advice (Funny!)

The following statements represent scenes from bad job interviews, which we could also term funny job interviews depending on our point of view.

Let's take a moment out of our overly-serious job search activities to enjoy these humorous job interview mistakes which also contain valuable advice about what not to do during your next interview!

Instructions

Each of these snippets about job interviewing offers you the wrong advice. For each statement, think of some better advice to help yourself find a great job:

Be Prepared

• Arrive fashionably late for the interview. You don’t want to appear too eager.

• If the interviewer asks you for a copy of your resume, tell her that your cat ate it. :-)

• Wear socks that don’t match. Or, wear pajamas or a tuxedo.

• Go to the interview with a “Mohawk” hair do (especially true for the ladies).

• Don’t practice, or research the company. Just wing it!

• Wait until after the interview to confirm/provide a list of your references.

Be Professional

• Do the “wink and gun” often during the interview, until you convince the employer about your enthusiasm.

• Ask your interviewer out on a date – it’s a way to demonstrate your “people skills.”

• If your cell phone rings, answer that call! It could be another employer offering you a better job.

• Don’t send a thank you card after the interview – that’s “sucking up” to the employer!

• It’s not important to tell the truth during an interview, as long as you end up getting the position.

Be Positive

• Finish the answer to every interview question by firmly exclaiming, “and this job is MINE!

• Joke around a lot during the interview. Smile constantly.

• Say a lot of negative things about yourself during the interview - especially when asked about “weakness” questions.

• When waiting to hear back about a possible job offer, just sit tight and don’t do any more job searching.

Slouching gives the employer the impression that you’re a relaxed and calm candidate. Lean your head to the side or let it bobble around for extra effect.

And finally ...

• Ask lots of questions about “how the company can benefit me.”
